ICC Reads Discussion Group – Marshall Welch, Engaging Higher Education, Chapter 4

ICC Reads is an online book discussion group in which individuals from Indiana Campus Compact partner institutions talk about selected texts related to service-learning and community engagement. The 2017-2018 ICC Reads Selection is Engaging Higher Education: Purpose, Platforms, and Programs for Community Engagement by Marshall Welch. The Discussion Group meets via the Zoom web conference; registered participants will be sent the log-in information prior to each session. Now What Do I Do? Dealing with the Unexpected

This session will cover some of the most common, yet unexpected things that can go wrong during a community-based project and give you tips on how to deal with them and where to turn for help.  Join us for the 8th Annual Service Engagement Summit: Connecting Across Divides, February 26-27, 2017 in Indianapolis, IN The annual event aims to help embed human rights and social justice into higher education. This year we are exploring how to cross the many divides that plague our society. FEATURING KEYNOTE ADDRESSES BY:   Eva Mozes Kor, a survivor of the Holocaust who, with her twin sister Miriam, was subjected to human experimentation under Josef Mengele at Auschwitz.  Kor received international attention when she publicly forgave the Nazis for what had been done to her.     Amal Kassir, a Syrian-American international spoken word poet, whose work in the community involves humanitarian initiatives for Syria, speaking out and organizing against Islamophobia, and empowering the voice of the marginalized through writing & speaking. Telling the Story through a Unique Lens
