9th Annual Connecting Campuses with Communities | Indianapolis, IN | May 15-19, 2017
Connecting Campuses with Communities is a week-long conference co-sponsored by Indiana Campus Compact and the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning and has hosted over 350 engaged scholars from more than 100 institutions and five countries. Participants may choose to attend the Service Learning Institute or the Research Academy or both as a way of honing their skills as a service learning scholar and community engagement practitioner.
Service Learning Institute
Monday May 15 – Wednesday May 17
Institute Objectives:
• To increase the number of high quality service learning courses
• To share promising practices and generate new ideas
• To enhance reflection, assessment, and partnerships in service learning classes
• To build a network of service learning practitioners
Institute Topics:
• Designing courses for well-integrated service learning
• Creating and assessing learning outcomes
• Developing meaningful reflection activities
• Collaborating with community partners as co-educators
Research Academy Wednesday, May 17 – Friday, May 19
Academy Objectives:
• To strengthen research on service learning and community engagement
• To advance the scholarship of teaching and learning
• To provide consultation and feedback on research ideas
• To build a network of service learning scholars
Academy Topics:
• Integrating curricula and research
• Developing measurement approaches; quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods
• Designing theory-grounded research questions using ethical methods
• Writing research proposals and manuscripts
