Fall 2021 Community Engagement Toolbox

Dear Friends:

The past 18 months were, well, I don’t think I need to exactly describe what those months were like—we all experienced it together. There were ups and downs and plenty of pivoting, but the team and I stood by your side and worked tirelessly fielding phone and Zoom calls, listening to the beat on the ground, and responding to meet the most pressing needs of all of our partner institutions. What worked for one didn’t work for another, but like the times, we continued to evolve until we had the right match for everyone. And guess what? We’re ready for a new academic year that will bring us all back together again—in person!

I’m proud of the work we’ve accomplished together in an otherwise uncertain time. As we kick off a new academic year, we’re continuing our commitment to provide you with all of the resources you’ll need to meet your community engagement missions. Take a look at the messages from my colleagues and learn about new hybrid programs and opportunities (and our tried-and-true favorites), including our partnership in the Indiana-Kentucky-Ohio-North Carolina (IKONC) Interstate Alliance. IKONC offers you access to programs in these states at partner rates.

We look forward to seeing you at the Fall Retreat in September, but until then please don’t hesitate to give us a call to let us know how we can better serve you, your institution, and broader communities.

In solidarity,

J.R. Jamison, M.A.Ed.
Executive Director, Indiana Campus Compact

Welcome back!

As our focus begins to shift from summer days to longing for autumn, I want to welcome you back and ensure you know that your friends at Indiana Campus Compact are here to help you!

As you are likely aware, Indiana Campus Compact launched our Engagement Portal in 2019 to provide you, the user, a single place to register for opportunities, submit grant applications and reports, track your personal engagement, and keep your contact information up-to-date. Our Engagement Portal continues to grow each day, with improved functionality, information, and tracking abilities.

Recently, we added a feature that keeps a running list of every event you have attended and each grant application you have submitted. This will provide you with an overview of how you have been engaged with Indiana Campus Compact. In addition, we have added a few questions to the contact profile. This new information provides us with ways of connecting with you and tailoring our messaging to meet your needs. We ask that you update your contact information here and check back often for updates!  If you do not have an account, you can create one here.

Once you update your information and/or create an account, I encourage you to look at our Professional Development Opportunities, specifically the Annual Fall Retreat!  This year’s retreat will be held on September 17th  at the University of Indianapolis and provides an opportunity to gather with and learn from colleagues, explore what Indiana Campus Compact has in store for the future, and provide feedback that will inform our strategic plan. Be sure to keep an eye out for future eBriefs and emails with more information! Be sure to download our most recent calendar to keep up to date with our offerings for the fall semester.

Along with the many other wonderful opportunities you’ve already read about, I invite you to explore our Social Innovation Microlending program. This program offers alums and current students a chance to apply for capital to support their social venture with loan amounts up to $50,000. Now is a great time to explore social ventures that meet a community need, don’t wait!

For more information on the Indiana Campus Compacts Engagement Portal, Social Innovation Microlending Program,  the Annual Fall Retreat, or any general inquiry, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at summer {at} incampuscompact(.)org.

Wishing you the best of luck in the upcoming semester,

Laura WeaverWe are here to support YOU!

As I reflect on the past 18-months and prepare for the year ahead, I have held the words of Sonya Renee Taylor in the forefront,

We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was never normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate, and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature.

We, at Indiana Campus Compact, are here to help you stitch your new garment, one that focuses on authenticity and equity through your community engagement work. For more than 25 years we have provided our partner campuses with high-quality professional development, customized training, one-on-one consultations, and funding opportunities, and we are excited to offer more of the same in 2021-2022. Here is a peek into what you can look forward to in the upcoming year:

  • Over $20,000 in available funding through our High-Impact Community Engagement Practices and Strengthening Communities grant programs.
  • Opportunity to connect with peers in our Congress of Leaders communities of practice. Registration is still open for one community of practice!
  • Discuss the current literature by participating in ICCReads. The next selection will be announced in October.
  • Present and plan to attend the 2022 Summit and Research Symposium scheduled for April 7 – 8, 2022. This two-day event will be held at the French Lick Resort. Watch for the RFP and information on booking your room in late September!
  • Get support for your engaged scholarship and publishing by attending the always popular 2022 Pen to Paper Writing Retreat, which will be held in person in mid-May 2022. This year we are also adding Pen to Paper 2.0, a special opportunity just for Pen to Paper Alums!
  • Don’t forget, you can always bring Indiana Campus Compact to YOUR campus through our Customized Assistance. Connect with me today to learn more and get started planning your professional development day!

This is just a snapshot of what we have planned for the year ahead and I am excited to reconnect and learn more about how we can support you as we join together in crafting a garment that fits all humanity and nature.

Warmly,
