| Victoria Bennett - ONE Campaign at IU Southeast |
|
Victoria Bennett, a senior at Indiana University Southeast, has been actively working to revive the ONE campaign on her campus. ONE is a national organization that advocates against extreme poverty and preventable disease, especially in Africa. The first ONE event at IU Southeast was held in fall 2011, and Bennett described it as a success. The event entailed a discussion with an IU Southeast professor and expert on extreme poverty. The group also planned a World Hunger Day dinner in March to raise awareness for the cause.
Bennett previously lived in Atlanta before starting school at IU Southeast. She works full-time as a paralegal and returned to school after many years in the workforce. Bennett was initially apprehensive about joining campus life as a nontraditional student. However, she knew she wanted to get involved in the community. She offered some advice to other students looking to get involved on campus: “Just do it. Don’t think there’s not a place for you.” For more information about the ONE campaign, please visit www.one.org. |
