Indiana Campus Compact is pleased to announce the Student Success Mentor program, a new initiative that focuses on student success by partnering first year Twenty-first Century Scholars in the Indiana Youth Institute’s Indiana College Success Mentoring Initiative (ICSM) with on-campus peer and community-based member mentors. Student Success Mentors will work in tandem with the ISCM community partner mentors so that each participating Twenty-first Century Scholar has access to the benefits of peer mentoring in addition to community mentoring. This two pronged approach will enhance the overall collegiate experience for the mentees by providing meaningful networking opportunities, peer mentoring and support, leadership development programs, and civic engagement activities. As part of this collaboration, Student Success Mentors will work with ICSM in tracking and measuring the mentees progress toward successful retention, degree attainment, and overall success throughout their college career. The peer mentoring portion of the program, Student Success Mentors, will connect incoming first year ISCM Twenty-first Century Scholars on Indiana Campus Compact member campuses with an upperclassmen student who is committed to student engagement, leadership, and success. The community member mentoring portion of the program, ICSM, matches select Twenty-first Century Scholars with trained mentors who provide ongoing guidance and support through high school graduation and into the students' chosen path of postsecondary education. The Student Success Mentor program is designed to assist in the personal, professional, social, and academic acclimation of select first year Twenty-first Century Scholar to college by cultivating positive relationships with their peer mentors. In addition to providing peer mentoring and support, Student Success Mentors can connect students to on-campus resources, various clubs, student organizations, service engagement opportunities, and other academic and co-curricular activities. Indiana Campus Compact received a $25,000 grant through the Indiana Youth Institute to launch the Student Success Mentor program in the 2012-2013 academic year. The Indiana Youth Institute promotes the healthy development of Indiana children and youth by serving the people, institutions, and communities that impact their well-being. The Twenty-first Century Scholars Program was created to help low and middle income Indiana families meet the cost of a college education. The program aims to ensure that all Indiana families can afford a college education for their children. This partnership is made possible by the generous support of USA Funds. Student Success Mentor placements will be determined by the number of first year ICSM Twenty-first Century Scholars enrolled at each institution. Identified campuses will receive a $1,215 budget to administer the Student Success Mentor program.
