ICC Membership Process

Membership Process and Expectations

When an institution expresses interest in becoming a member of Indiana Campus Compact, the following steps are taken:

  • Initial conversations may be held among various Indiana Campus Compact staff members and representatives of the institution.
  • The Executive Director of Indiana Campus Compact and the President of the institution meet to discuss membership details.
  • The President submits a letter of application for membership to the Presidents Board.
  • The Presidents’ Board considers and votes on the application for membership as expediently as possible.

Once an institution is accepted for membership, the campus becomes a member of both Indiana Campus Compact and National Campus Compact.

As a member of these two organizations, the President of an institution is expected to fulfill the following membership duties:

  • Pay annual dues.
  • Attend two (2) Presidents’ Board meetings per academic year.
  • Appoint three (3) to four (4) campus representatives to the Indiana Campus Compact Advisory Board.  These will include a faculty representative, a faculty or staff person to serve as the Community Service Director, and one or two student representatives, who will attend two (2) Advisory Board meetings each academic year.
  • Nominate one (1) student each academic year for the Richard J. Wood Student Community Commitment Award.
  • Nominate one (1) staff member each academic year for the Community Service Director Award Honoring Those Who Facilitate and Inspire Service-Learning to Create the Campus and Community Connection.
  • Ensure nomination from the chief academic officer of one (1) faculty member each academic year or the Brian Douglas Hiltunen Faculty Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Scholarship of Engagement.
  • Ensure the completion of one (1) National Campus Compact survey per academic year.
  • Support and promote the Campus Compact concepts of service learning and campus-community engagement as integral parts of the higher education experience.
