IU Global Village Living-Learning Center (Video)

Books & Beyond Year 3: Kick off Video: To begin the third cycle of Books and Beyond, the writing partners from TEAM Schools traveled to Indiana University, Bloomington to meet their writing partners and tour campus.)


The Global Village, IU’s newest living-learning center, is an undergraduate residence committed to preparing students with a broad range of international interests, regardless of major, for life beyond the United States. Comprised of approximately 150 students, the Village strives to create a close-knit community that is diverse and respectful. The ultimate mission of the Global Village is to expand student knowledge of world affairs and foreign languages and cultures, prepare students for travel overseas and assist students in accessing IU’s and Bloomington’s many international resources. With the help of a dedicated staff and the support of the College of Arts and Sciences the Village creates opportunities for students to prepare themselves for global living in the 21st century.

TEAM Schools is part of the KIPP Charter School Network. TEAM Schools is located in Newark, NJ and comprises of an elementary, two middle schools, and one high schools. Approximately 15 TEAM middle and high school students participate in the Books & Beyond project as a writing partner. In this role, the middle and high school students are matched with IU Global Village students to write a children’s story that is compiled into an anthology along with stories from students in Kinigi, Rwanda. Along the way, the TEAM students also learn about college life, through a visit to Indiana University as well as mentoring from their IU Global Village partner.
