Congratulations to J.R. Jamison, named one of East Central Indiana's movers and shakers as part of the 20 under 40 honored in M-Magazine. Jamison is the Associate Director of Indiana Campus Compact and we couldn't be happier to have one of our own recognized for his work in the community, something he has been doing since he was an undergraduate at Ball State University.
In his nomination letter, author Kelsey Timmerman said, "He is the epitome of the "glocal" citizen - global and local. It has impacted the way his lives his life and his love for Muncie and spreading that engagement of service and learning all over."
"I've always been community focused - at Ball State and then with AmeriCorps and now with Indiana Campus Compact, " Jamison said.
"This (20 under 40) is humbling and a huge honor. I never think about being nominated for an award!"
Besides his dedication to Indiana Campus Compact, Jamison is also the co-founder of The Facing Project, an author, and public speaker. His work has appeared on NPR and in such publications as the Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education and the Journal of Public Scholarship in HIgher Education, as well as in both of Timmerman's books, "Where Am I Wearing?" and "Where Am I Eating?".
Cheryl Lindus, General Manager and Advertising Director, M Magazine, said "Deciding to recognize the area's top 20 under 40 was a simple decision. East Central Indiana has a new generation of leaders who dedicate themselves to personal causes and professional development. They excel in their professions, as well as making a significant commitment to community service."
