If you are like me, your email inbox was full all weekend long—likely not with greetings from friends and family, but with promotions about all the (pre and) post-Thanksgiving shopping opportunities. And I have no doubt that today you will be getting many emails from non-profit organizations that are important to you, reminding you that it is Giving Tuesday.
Applications now available for the 6th Annual Connecting Campuses with Communities: Service Learning Institute and Research Academy
Connecting Campuses with Communities is a capacity building program for faculty and staff that is co-sponsored by Indiana Campus Compact and the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning. In the past, over 250 engaged scholars from more than 100 institutions and five countries have attended this annual event to enhance their service-learning teaching and community-based research.
This year's event will start with the Service-Learning Institute (Monday, May 12th, through mid-day Wednesday, May 14th) followed by the Research Academy (mid-day Wednesday, May 14th, through Friday, May 16th). The schedule allows accepted participants to attend one or both events.
Earlier this year, I wrote about the experience of sitting at the Indiana Campus Compact 20th Anniversary celebration and listening to some of our founding members share why Indiana Campus Compact was important to higher education 20 years ago and why it continues to be important to higher education today. As you may recall, what struck me in that moment was that each of us is a tiny part of a history and of a story that is so much larger than anyone of us.
College campuses are changing. College students are changing. No longer are they limited to the bricks and mortar buildings with young adult students solely focused on being a student. The college student population has diversified over the last few decades bringing students of varied ages, experiences, and expectations to our doors. And sometimes, they are coming to virtual doors.
So what does community engagement look like on the 21st Century campus?
Join Thomas Ehlrich, Ernestine Fu, Derrick Feldmann, and Craig DeForest at the 2014 Service Engagement Summit to help you explore that question.
Applications for the 2014 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll have not been released yet, however the due date has been confirmed as April 3, 2014.
Please bookmark http://myproject.nationalservice.gov/honorroll/ to stay updated on the application release. In the meantime, on that same site you can find the 2014 Honor Roll categories as well as webinar dates.
It is with great pleasure that I share Indiana Campus Compact's 2012-2013 annual report with you.
We recognize that our work happens on campuses and in communities far beyond our office every day because of support from people like you. As you will see in this year's report, the support that five Indiana Campus Compact staff members provided to 42 member campuses last year, created a ripple effect that impacted nearly 60,000 community members in Indiana.
