Building ‘Bias Awareness’ for Student Success

One of the biggest elements of helping our students succeed on- and off-campus is creating a culture of bias awareness whereby the student becomes informed of how their own bias towards people, places, and things impact their relationships, responses, and sense of belonging for themselves and others. Before students can best identify another person’s personal need or community need and serve them effectively, they must understand how their perspective may be impacted by conscious or unconscious bias. This conversation will explore how faculty and staff can provide space and opportunities for students to grow in this area of self-discovery and understanding.
